Vermentino R.L.P.

Although made from a grape grown widely in an area covering Tuscany, Provence, Sardinia and Corsica, the wine has a distinctively Ligurian character. The label features Castle Doria in green, like the green tinges of the wine, emphasised by a white line that is a stylised image of the humpback bridge, on a white background. Riviera Ligure di Ponente Vermentino DOC

100% Vermentino

Wine region

The vineyards of our growers cover the parts of the Nervia, Verbone and Impero valleys that are most suitable for vine cultivation with mainly clayey, sandy soils with a high pebble content, low levels of limestone and pH levels ranging between sub-alkaline and acidic.

Cultivation systems

Vermentino is cultivated using the traditional alberello system or the Guyot trellis system. All aspects of vine cultivation are carried out by hand due to the morphology of the terrain.

The hand-harvested grapes are delivered by the members of the cooperative just a few hours after the grape harvest. The grapes are soft pressed with extreme delicacy to avoid damaging the skins. Before the classic white winemaking process begins, some of the grapes are macerated with CO2 snow for a few hours to accentuate the typical character and style of the wine. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature (16-18°C) in stainless steel vats using selected yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is prevented to preserve the freshness of the wine. After a brief period of ageing in steel vats, the wine is bottled in the spring following the vintage (harvest).

Dry white wine. Medium straw yellow with light green tinges. It has an intense aroma with distinct citrussy notes, in particular grapefruit. With ageing, it develops floral notes, which can be very evident, acquiring sweetness and an almost vanilla-like aroma. It is an elegant dry wine with a fresh taste and good balance. It matches very well with fish dishes which exalt the freshness and the quality of the ingredients.
