Extreme wines are heroic wines, the result of immense effort and hard work. They are produced in areas that are often unknown and inaccessible, with grapes grown in minute hard-won plots of land created from rocky mountain slopes and reclaimed from the sea. From Trentino-Alto Adige to Sardinia, from the Aosta Valley to the island of Pantelleria, from Valtellina to the Amalfi Coast, from the Italian Riviera to the Costa Viola, from the Cinque Terre to the slopes of Mount Etna, ancient Oenotria (the Greek name for Italy, the “land of wine”) can boast a myriad different grape varieties that have survived wars and disease, in particular the scourge of phylloxera.
Since 2012, our own Barbadirame Dolceacqua Superiore has become part of this ambitious project.
